Granite Cremation Urns and Vases

Granite Cremation Urn

Granite urns and vases are not only amazing to look at, but the process to make them is complex and time consuming. There are two methods used to create a granite urn or vase. Both methods require first to find a piece of granite in the quarry.

Finding a piece of granite that is a perfect candidate can be a time consuming task in itself. The trick is to find a piece of granite in the quarry which will have a minimal amount of cutting and a minimal amount of natural flaws.

After the perfect piece is located the cutting processes begins. The artist uses a machine called a lathe. These are much like the woodworking and metal lathes. The artist uses this to cut and sculpt the vase.

Next they hollow the center to form the vase. Sometimes the artist will choose to hollow the center before sculpting the shape of the vase. The final step in the process is to polish the stone using a buffing tool.

The second method of creating a granite vase is by sculpting two separate sides of the vase or urn and then gluing them together much like the method used to create granite counter tops.

Whether you choose to cremate your loved one or bury them, commemorating their life with a granite urn is a perfect way to show how much you care. Because of its unique composition and the long process to create an urn, granite sybolizes the timelessness of a persons memory.
